Jan. 6th, 2009 11:20 amDriving lesson. Bloody disaster. I managed to stall four times in the first twenty minutes. When we pulled over for a quick pause Peter said perhaps I had things on my mind, and that everyone has times when they're not in the mood. I didn't mention that it wasn't anything like that; my co-ordination had just gone to total shite this morning for no apparent reason. Did a turn in the road OK, apart from forgetting to put the handbrake on before moving into first gear to move away at the end.
Three times Peter told me I should have waited for an oncoming car instead of coming out of a junction, and on another junction he actually stopped the car when I was about to come out; meanwhile turning onto Lee-on-Solent main road I waited for one oncoming car only for Peter to say I was far enough ahead of that one to have gone. Another time I was told I'd dawdled when coming out of a junction (I'd been comfortably ahead of an oncoming car when turning, which had then come up right behind me soon after).
Had to reposition myself three times while doing a bay park. My first try at a parallel park was wrecked by the car always going too fast whenever I started moving for a leg of the manoeuvre; Peter said I hadn't been applying the brake enough. So we did another parallel park; this time I used the brake the whole time and did OK.
Finally, going into a right turn towards the end I managed to go into fourth gear when I meant to go to second. Of course, going slowly in fourth the car stuttered and eventually stopped. At the end Peter said I hadn't slowed down enough approaching that turn and the reason I'd gone into the wrong gear was because I'd been going too fast. He concluded that my main problems overall were concentration and not applying the brake enough.
Thank frack that's over for another week.
