(no subject)
Oct. 11th, 2008 05:18 pmSpent the morning watching TNA Wrestling on Bravo, which was enough to take my mind off it being the bitch's wedding day, presumably to the herbert whom she got to hang the phone up on me, for two hours.
Thanks to bloody England (but I recognise that I'm in a small minority among Hawks fans in not giving a monkey's about Signor Capello's boys) Havant & Waterlooville were kicking off at 2 pm, so I went down to the town mid-morning to check out the Titanic exhibition, which closes today, in the Gosport Gallery. Checking my e-mail in the library,
ladymissloki brightened my morning by reminding me that the wonderful
emmazon is also a bride today. Congratulations and very best wishes,
emmazon and
nikh!
The exhibition was quite interesting, with boards telling the story of the Titanic and how the saga of the tragic liner has become iconic in our culture. It's true - I can't think of any other disaster, certainly not one beyond most living people's memory, that has gripped people's consciousness in the same way. There were menus, crockery and other items from other White Star liners and a few from the actual Titanic, plus a reconstruction of a two-bunk cabin. There were also a few costumes from the 1997 film, a photo signed by Kate Winslet of her as Rose, the drawing of a naked Rose done by Jack in the movie (really drawn by James Cameron) and a replica of the Heart of the Ocean jewel. I remembered that the one bit of the film I never got was the elderly Rose throwing the Heart in the sea - that never made sense to me.
And so over to Westleigh Park. The usual, competent barmaid was on duty, so I got my lovely Kopparberg today :) Hawks scored twice in the first half but Godalming, though two divisions lower, gave us one hell of a match in the second. We had plenty of chances but didn't convert, and Godalming took advantage of sloppy defence to pull one back and came dangerously near to equalising. I was mightily relieved that we held on.
No Oranje v Iceland for me tonight, as Gillian's watching X Factor 5.
