Got to come off the phones at 12 noon to go to the Dress Rehearsal debriefing. As Jeff ran through the proposed new questions asking us for our feedback, lots of people had plenty to say and poor old Jeff was starting to think we'd still be there at Christmas - but in the end we were finished at 3pm, an hour ahead of schedule.

That gave me time to go down to Gosport post office after I got home to send a package to Switzerland. Made it there comfortably at 4.50 but, alas, it wasn't the easy ride I'd expected. Firstly the counter lady wouldn't sell me Swiss francs on my Mastercard as I didn't have my driving licence or passport on me. She said, with a smile, "Get the cash out and you won't need ID."

I had no idea whether I could withdraw from holes in the wall using my Mastercard. Not only that, there's building work going on in front of the post office, so the ATM there is blocked off. Had to cross the road to Lloyds TSB. I inserted my Mastercard with a prayer...Thankfully it let me make a withdrawal without trouble.

Back in the Post Office, francs bought, my next problem was finding an envelope. The newspaper shop across the road hadn't had any of suitable size, and all the Post Office had to offer were plastic Mailbags. Unfortunately I'd only brought a fountain pen, not the best instrument for writing on the plastic surface. Then when I made the head of the queue one of the two girls on duty disappeared into the back room, and the other was busy doing something or other and didn't call anybody. "Typical, now we're waiting they go," the bloke behind me said to me at 5.16, wondering whether we'd get served. Not long after, a man did appear and called me.

When he put my package face down on the counter then turned it upwards, some of the address had smudged quite a bit. Thankfully he stuck a paper label right underneath and wrote the address out on it in biro.

After all that carry-on I need a treat. Just booked my ticket to see the Pogues in December, and this year I'll be fulfilling a lifelong ambition, to stay at the Victoria Thistle Hotel. Thank goodness for Mastercard. I now need to turn my attention to the matter of paying the bill off, though...
