Jan. 4th, 2008 08:31 pmArrived in Havant this afternoon with a fair amount of time to kill before seeing my counsellor, so moseyed into The Perseverance pub. They had Caffreys on promo at £1.50 a pint. First time I'd tried it - lovely stuff. Decided to have a pound's worth on the juke box. When one of my selections, Goodbye To Love by The Carpenters, came on, one of the lady staff, who was playing pool with a male colleague, was crossing the bar just in front of my table. "Who put this on?" she asked.
I fessed up.
"Cool song," quoth she, arriving back at the pool table. The bloke, and the barmaid on duty, gave her some stick - "It's the Carpenters!" said the barmaid - but the lady stood her ground. "I love the Carpenters."
Later I put on I'd Do Anything For Love by Meat Loaf, which got similar approval from her and similar disapproval from the man. As I passed by the pool table softly singing along she said "See, he likes it." Then, turning to me : "Cool song, isn't it?"
I just might have to make this place my matchday boozer.
Just spent the evening helping take down the Christmas decorations.
And now I must go and watch my DVD of Blue Murder at St Trinian's - the last of the treats bought with my Christmas money - then catch an early night before the trip to Swansea.
