Dec. 16th, 2007 07:30 pmHawk Ladies were away to Moneyfields in the Portsmouth Cup quarter-final, but Moneys couldn't get their pitch so the match was played at Fort Blockhouse, walking distance from me :) The girls won 5-0. Penny curled the first straight in from a corner then netted our fourth from a penalty, but late in the game, when we were awarded another penalty, despite the shouts of "Penny's on a hat-trick" from us on the sidelines, Billie took the kick - and crashed the ball against the crossbar. "Dick of the Day," I said, and Sam and Eskimo Jen, who'd been substituted, agreed.
After the game I was invited to join the girls for their Christmas dinner at the Seahorse (we all paid our own way, me included). I arrived there a while before the club party, as obviously the girls had to get changed, so sat in the bar with a pear cider (sadly not Swedish) watching the opening minutes of Arsenal v Chelsea. Damo, my cousin Gayle's partner, was there so we talked until Gayle arrived and they went off to eat at The Coach House.
At first I sat down next to Kelly and opposite Nikki, at the end of a row on the players' table, at the junction with the top table where the club officials were, but when Lisa Cooper arrived and there were no more seats at the at the players' table I was ordered to move to the space at the end of the officials' table to allow Lisa to sit with her team-mates. "You're not allowed to sit with the children," Rob said to me, "you have to sit with the adults."
Trevor bought everyone a drink. I went for slow cooked topside of Hampshire beef (delicious) followed by black forest gateau with cream. As we waited for the food, the players voted for Man of the Match - a tie between Laura and Jodie - and Dick of the Day - which Billie did win. "There are people alive who will never see a Penny Fowler hat-trick," Trevor called down to her.
