Jul. 12th, 2007 08:29 pmMy local radio station, Ocean FM, has a show on weekday evenings, Rearrange Chart History, where viewers are invited to vote for their favourite song from a Top 10 of the past, then after an hour of voting the results are announced with the top five played in full.
Tonight, at the end of the results, the DJ Warren Hayden announced that Monday's show would be the chart of July 1987, and that voting was now open. I immediately remembered that The Firm's hit Star Trekkin' had hit the top of the charts in the second half of June 1987. If you don't remember this classic piece of musical history, here it is:

I wondered if Star Trekkin' might still have been in the Top 10 in July. If it was, I was going to provide the link to the Ocean FM website and request your help in all voting for it, as I thought it would be a jolly jape to put this superb song as high in the poll as possible. Alas, I've just visited the website and it isn't one of the 10 songs on offer. Looking back, I remember now it fell from #1 on 30 June, so probably had dropped out of the Top 10 by 16 July. Thinking about it, Ocean have so far always managed to avoid picking weeks when there was a novelty record on the chart. I call that dashed unsporting.
