The ladies did us proud on the Home Baking table, though my Lent abstinence from chocolate precluded me sampling over half the goodies, including Vanessa's lovely-looking Mars Bar cheesecake. Still, what I did try - some caramel-topped shortbread, yogurt and cereal squares, coffee and walnut cake, and Sarah #4's lemon drizzle cake - was very tasty. Not long after the food was unveiled, Sue #1 told me Carolyn had had a piece of my flapjack and really liked it. Sarah #4 took a little piece but found it too strong, but nobody else even tried :( I ate three slices myself to stop it going to waste, but that still left half of it to be offered to the evening shift with the other leftovers.

On the phones, when I asked one elderly lady if she was still living alone, she said "Yes, unfortunately" and asked if we could send her a handsome 80-year-old man.

To Aldershot in the evening for a Russian troupe's performance of Peter Pan On Ice. As we entered the VIP lounge for pre-show drinks, the first person inside the door was Maria, who exclaimed "Wilhelmus, my sweetheart! I've missed you." (This month my mother's gone to a couple of civic events without me - the first time because I was watching Hawks Ladies, the second time because a friend of hers really wanted to go in my place.) So we hugged and kissed, and caught up once I'd got my complimentary Coke. Met Mike and Rosemary from Romsey and talked to them till we got the call to go up to our seats in the balcony.

The show was very well performed and choreographed, with highly impressive sets and effects. There was no narration, the whole thing was all simply ice-dancing to music. It wasn't to the taste of one civic head, who will remain nameless to protect the guilty; as we went downstairs at the start of the interval he remarked to me "So this is what happens to ice dancers who don't make it, they end up in shows like this."

Back in the VIP lounge at break, there were very tasty little toasted bits of bread topped with cheese and tomato, plus mini chicken wraps to dip into cream cheese or salsa dip. Alexis, David from New Forest's friend, asked what my plans were after we leave office in May; I told her how I'm hoping to go to Åland in July. She asked if I was going on my own, I confirmed yes; she said I was brave and I explained that I'm completely used to it, having gone on holidays alone throughout my adult life. She seemed a bit sorry for me having no-one to go with.

Joined my mother by the refreshment table, where she was chatting to Peter and Marian from Eastleigh. Moments later I met David; much to the chagrin of him and Alexis, the cheese and tomato toasties had run out. We spotted a waiter who seemed to be about to go and fetch something, raising our hopes that reinforcements of toasties were on their way, but he was just coming to pick up the chicken wraps and salsa dip from the table and walk round offering them to everyone...
