Jan. 31st, 2007 10:04 pmWent to Portsmouth mid-morning to switch my bank account over to the Co-operative Bank, now that I'm no longer tied to First Direct by Mistress Overdraft and her bondage gear. Was met by a friendly enough guy who said I'd have to make an appointment to come back, as they're too small a branch to open accounts for people on the spot, so I have to return on Monday. When he asked which bank I was coming from and I said First Direct, he smiled and asked whether First Direct's new charges were my reason for switching. Sounds like the Co-op have won a few converts from FD.
Popped into Portsmouth Library and looked on every floor for Ann, but didn't see her. On my way out, asked the lady on the front reception whether Ann was around; she went into the back room, came back and said Ann had gone to lunch.
Back in Gosport, went to the White Hart for a back-in-the-black celebration lunch of 6oz burger with chilli and sour cream with chips and onion rings and a pint of Greene King IPA.
Late this afternoon, a bit of a headache and a sore throat came over me. Hope it's not fucking flu.
Went over to Gunwharf in the evening to see Dreamgirls. As it's my friend Vanessa's birthday, rang her from the cinema's front foyer before going in (I'd texted her this morning but hadn't heard back). Poor old Ness, yesterday she tripped over a crate someone had left on the floor of the chemist's where she works, had a bad fall and did her back, so she's spent her birthday laid up at home with a bad back :(
The film was excellent. Beyoncé Knowles, Jennifer Hudson (she has to win the Oscar, please) and Eddie Murphy are all stand-outs, the story's both captivating and moving, and the music is brilliant. I strongly recommend it. My headache remained for most of the film, but seems gone now - fingers crossed. Throat still sore though.
