Dec. 30th, 2006 04:59 pmSet off at lunch time for Hawks v Yeading. Waiting at the bus stop, I switched my phone on to find a volley of texts from Jade, one asking if she could bring her compilation tape to Christmas Skittles Evening tonight, another asking if I could give back Phil's video of the X Factor final, and a third asking if I'd got the previous two. I was going to be heading straight for the skittles after the game, and didn't have time to run back home and collect the video, so I texted her saying I'd drop it in to her tomorrow.
I'd set off early because there were replacement buses instead of trains today, but still arrived at Westleigh Park over an hour before kick-off. Had a random conversation with a random bunch of other Hawks fans while watching the second half of Charlton v Aston Villa over a Magners. From about 2pm it was absolutely pissing with rain outside; as we'd already had a downpour last night, leaving the pitch wet, by 2.20 people were openly talking about the possibility of the match being rained off. I headed for the ground at 2.40, bought a programme and stuffed it inside my jacket to keep it dry, and wandered towards the stand. While I was still in transit, an announcement came over the PA that the match had been postponed.
So I had to trudge the mile back to Havant station in the pouring rain. I'd thought I was holding on to my programme through my jacket all through the walk, but back at the station I felt under my jacket and it was gone. Clearly it had fallen out somewhere along the way. Two quid down the chute. And I was left standing around like a suet pudding for 20 minutes before the Portsmouth bus finally showed up.
Sitting at home now, thoroughly fed up. And at the Christmas skittles night, I'll be expected to smile like a bastard all evening. The only bright spot on the whole day is that I'm able to give Jade Phil's video tonight after all.
