Jun. 6th, 2006 08:01 pmConfession time : for the last 2 days I've been on a bit of an eating binge. Part of that was down to Gran dropping off three dozen jaffa cakes for me on the weekend, but the bag of mini Daim bar bites my mother brought back from France played a major part. Those things are unbelievably moreish.
So as I had a free day today, there was glorious sunshine and I had to go out anyway (had a parcel to collect from the sorting office) I decided to get some exercise in. After picking up my parcel (my Havant & Waterlooville T-shirt), I took the bus to Fareham and went for a walk, all the way out to the edge of town until the start of the motorway prevented me progressing further, then turned back, took a different turn-off and walked around for a while. I was actually searching for the place where one of my childhood friends had lived; I didn't remember the address, only that it was on a high hill in Fareham near the main road out of town. I found a high hill near the main road out of town that might or might not have been the one, then saw the sign for a pub called The Turnpike and headed over there to quench my thirst...only to find the place was boarded up.
I kept walking down the road and eventually came to a turn-off into a familiar street, Osborn Road. Before long Ferneham Hall came into view. There I paid a much-needed visit to the loo before quenching my thirst with a Coke at the bar.
After the bus ride home I strolled down to Asda to stock up on supplies. Along with the essentials, I bought enough bags of their World Cup Crisps to see me through the games from the start of the tournament till the parents' homecoming on the 18th. Back home, in the living room I saw my mobile phone bill lying on the table and realised I'd dropped an almighty clanger.
I'd neglected to take that £34.78 bill into consideration when calculating my disposable funds for the month.
There is no way I'm asking the bank to extend my OD beyond £500 again. I had enough trouble persuading them to do it as a one-off last month. After a momentary panic, which included considering going without my Benadryl Plus for six non-working days (which would guarantee six days of hay fever hell), and cursing those impulse buys of books last week, I made some quick mental calculations and concluded that I'd be OK as long as I cut out my usual cups of coffee from the office vending machines, dropped plans to see a local music group I like at the Barley Mow on the 17th, and abandoned any thoughts of take-aways during these two weeks, making do with the food in the house (which is enough to last the whole time). Ho hum.
If you were a kid in the 80s and feel nostalgic for Rola Cola, or if you've heard of it through Peter Kay and are wondering what it tasted like, buy Happy Shopper Refreshing Cola. It tastes just like Rola Cola.
