Jun. 5th, 2006 05:15 pmWas working today as a shift-swap with Amanda, who's on Unit Alpha, so was sat in a row of unfamiliar people. Just minutes into the shift, the lady next to me said she might want to swap booths as there was some application she wanted to get into that her workstation wouldn't do. I'd have willingly switched with her, but the people at the very next house I phoned were in, so that was me tied to my booth for the next half hour. Thankfully, while I was doing the interview someone helped her sort the problem on her own workstation. (Meanwhile, the bloke I was interviewing turned out to have a serious attitude problem, but at least he completed the whole thing.)
After that call ended, and again at about noon, I paid a visit to the extras book to see whether I'd be wanted tomorrow. Still none of the names had been highlighted in yellow marker, so I asked one of the clerical team whether I was needed and she said she'd find out.
Overran by 20 minutes thanks to a four adult family, but that suited me fine as it'll reduce my deficit hours and Sarah #2 wasn't leaving till 3.15 anyway. After I'd packed up my headset I went back to the clerical table. There was still no highlighter in the extras book. I spoke to the same lady as before, and she said she didn't think they needed any extras tomorrow. She asked where I was on the list; I replied fourth, and she said I almost certainly wouldn't be needed but they'd phone me tonight if that changed.
On the one hand, I'm sorry I won't get to slash my deficit by five hours, but I can't deny the thought of an unexpected day off tomorrow does have its appeal.
