May. 8th, 2006 03:15 pmWith my Swiss trip coming up, and a £54 mobile phone bill this week (thankfully the last of the monster ones, since I rumbled SMS.ac's little scam), it was becoming clear that I'm going to need an extension to my £500 OD limit. Rang my bank first thing this morning and asked for a £600 facility just for May; the customer services guy said he'd have to transfer me to the Lending department. The man in Lending asked me quite a few questions : firstly, what did I want the money for? Obviously I didn't tell him about Switzerland, just said it was for living expenses and that I might need new specs. Next he demanded to know how I intended paying it back. I said my next wages on the 31st would put me back inside the £500 limit and that I'd pay the OD off progressively through the year by spending less each month than I earned. Thank goodness, that satisfied him, though I still had to answer a couple more queries, including how much housekeeping I was paying my parents; then at last he granted me the £600 OD, for the month of May only.
To Specsavers in the High Street this morning for my regular eye test. Hooray, my old specs are good enough for two more years, so just got charged the £17.95 test fee. (It does seem a bit of a pig that we part-time workers, though we earn much less, get treated just the same as full-timers when it comes to NHS charges and stuff.) Then on to the Post Office to get my Swiss francs.
