Our office gym has a 'Join for a Coin' promotion on this week, allowing new members to join for £1 instead of the regulation £17.50. Since I need to take more exercise, and a combination of being busy and lousy weather have meant my brisk walks have become sporadic in recent weeks, I decided to sign up.
Went along for my induction this afternoon, but my having let the walking slip created a hiccup : the blood pressure test showed I've drifted back up into the zone where I need a medical referral to embark on an exercise programme. The lady who runs the gym was most friendly, and said she was sure I wouldn't have a problem if I stuck to aerobic exercise - the treadmill, the bike and the rowing machines, which were what I was intending to use - but said I'd have to have a blood pressure test with, and a referral from, my practice nurse.
So I'm booked in to see the nurse on Thursday after work, then if all goes well I'm down for my first gym session next Monday. The good news is that the gym lady is putting down my start date as today so I won't be getting clobbered for an additional £16.50.
Ho hum.
