Pay day, but I have mucho financial commitments this month, and thanks to global warming my hay fever is coming on already, necessitating the purchase of a month's supply of Benadryl Plus, so limited my indulgence to a ticket for the South Coast Idol final and three cheap books from Amazon Marketplace, including David Winner's one on travelling round the world watching last summer's World Cup on TV.

Dentist this afternoon. He examined my damaged tooth and its neighbour, and said a previous filling on the next tooth had been done too large, causing this tooth to break. (No, I thought to myself, it was a toffee.) When he said he'd have to do a crown filling on both of them, possibly followed by an inlay, I began bricking it at the thought of an astronomical bill, but he just did a single white filling across part of the front of each tooth and said any further treatment could wait until my next check-up in September, so I got away with a bill of £65.

Met a Big Issue vendor on the High Street. It was only after I'd walked away that I spotted he'd sold me an issue two weeks old. Ah well, at least I hadn't bought that issue before and there was an interview with the goddess that is Patti Smith in it.

In my month's budget I'd allowed a ton for the dentist, so was able to buy a ticket for Harlequins RL v Wigan Warriors on 2 June with my mind at ease.

College this evening. The family PC doesn't have Microsoft Publisher, so last night I ended up having to do my homework in Word, and occasionally (as I thought) cheat to produce the results I needed. There were no new Desktop Publishing exercises on the table, so rather than bother Joan for more, I spent the class doing the homework exercises in Publisher, since I do need to learn how to use Publisher. I soon got the hang of it and completed all three exercises by the end of class. Ironically, for many of the functions where I'd thought I'd been cheating in Word, you really do do it in Publisher exactly the way I'd done it in Word last night...

Might see you at Harlequins! They're going to be my summer sport fix I think, something to fill the gap. I went a few weeks ago and really enjoyed it, I sat in the cheap seats so didn't see a lot but it was a fun afternoon anyway. Much better value than league football.

My sentiments exactly - I've previously only seen RL on the telly but always liked it, and the atmosphere there looks better than at premiership footie. Would love to be going to Cardiff on Saturday for 'Millennium Magic' (Quins v Catalans followed by Wigan v St Helens all on one ticket), but funds won't quite stretch that far and these wretched mayoral duties don't allow...
