Once Upon A Christmas Song
Dec. 23rd, 2023 11:28 pmAFC Portchester vs Moneyfields this afternoon with Jade. The barmaids put a tub of Quality Street and a plateful of mince pies on the counter of the bar for the fans. Met Lewis in the bar pre-match, he told us about his last day in Germany sightseeing and the others’ flights home being delayed.
Before the game and at half time they played Christmas songs over the tannoy. Jade and I were singing along to most of them, we were delighted to hear Fairytale of New York included. Sarah started a game of making up chants by changing a word of a Christmas carol or song to ‘Portchy’ or something AFC Portchester related. “I’m dreaming of an orange Christmas” was the standout.
Justin appeared on the Curva during the second half and chatted to Lewis and Clare about his continuing groundhopping adventures around Europe (while the rest of us flew home on Monday, Justin travelled on for a few days more).
We got to say goodbye and Merry Christmas to all the people at Portchy we know.
Oh, and Portchester were pig dribble and lost 4-2.
Spent the evening putting up the Christmas decorations.
