Went to the Mayflower on Friday night to see Jasper Carrott & The Bev Bevan Band - Stand Up And Rock. The show consisted of two half-hours of stand-up from Jasper, alternating with two sets of 60s and 70s hits from Bev, who was the drummer in The Move and ELO, and his band. Although a lifelong fan of Jasper, I'd never seen him live. He didn't disappoint. Jasper's lost none of his touch for topicality. He opened with "The petrol stations are having a terrible time, they've run dry, and the sperm banks are having a terrible time. They've run dry. Because all the wankers are queueing for fuel."

Tracy, an old friend from the local women's football scene, had commented on my Facebook that she was also at the show, so I replied with where to find me. She came down to meet me in the ice cream queue at the interval. She said her much younger girlfriend had never heard of Jasper so she'd brought her along to enlighten her.

One of his sets was about being elderly. He said when his grandchildren grumbled about their Christmas presents he said "WHEN I WAS YOUR AGE, ALL I GOT FOR CHRISTMAS WAS AN APPLE AND AN ORANGE!" They replied "A smart phone AND a computer?" Towards the end of the band's second set Jasper joined them on stage with his guitar and led them into Status Quo's Caroline - then in the instrumental break segued into Jasper's 1975 hit Funky Moped to massive cheers.

That night I noticed a break in the strap on my Wave Ceptor watch. Blight and mildew. While I could have dropped it into Timpsons yesterday, according to their website they'd likely have had to send my watch away for a new one to be fitted, and I can't be without a watch for days on end. Glum, I ordered the classic £9.99 Casio on Argos' website. A model that loses 12 seconds every month. Back to making notes in my diaries to set it one minute fast every 4 months.

Yesterday, apart from the walk to Argos in the rain and using the time on my knackered Wave Ceptor to set my new Casio (one minute fast of course), was rest and relaxation with two WSL games on the telly. The teatime WSL game had Laura Bassett co-presenting <3 and looking very fetching in a pink coat. Cue ongoing exchange of messages with fellow admirer Cat. After the game something must have been amusing Laura because she kept breaking into broad grins. Be still my beating heart.
