Popped over to Portchester today to see my old friend Michele play for AFC Portchester Ladies.
Arriving at the ground, I noticed a white shutter down in front of the clubhouse bar so assumed they were shut and headed for the catering van outside the ground, for a bacon butty and a bag of liquorice.
On arrival I met one of the Portchester people and introduced myself. He thanked me for sponsoring Michele and said he was hoping to get me mentioned in the club programme.
It wasn't long before a group of players, Michele included, emerged from the dressing room. She came straight over to say hello, we touched elbows and she said there were a few familiar faces from my time watching Portsmouth Ladies and Havant Ladies in the team.
Between the team's warm-up and them returning to the dressing room, Michele brought her little daughter Frankie over to meet me and got her to say hello. Frankie seemed fixated with my woolly She Kicks hat.
Portchester won 9-0 with a hat-trick from Laura, an old face from Havant. I got talking to the girlfriend of Lynsey, another Portchester player. She had an older lady with her. They said they'd known Michele for ages.
After post-match warmdown Michele came back over to thank me for coming. On my way out I noticed the bar was actually open and I could have got a pint after all. Doh! Ah well, next week.
