What's Another Year?
Jul. 23rd, 2018 09:45 pmDown to Gosport at the weekend for the 2006 Hampshire chain gang reunion.
My grandma had had a fall and been taken to hospital on Friday morning so my mother and I popped in to see her on Saturday evening. She was stable but quiet, and we had to urge her on to drink water - dehydration's one of her problems. My cousins Gayle and Jackie were both there, nice to have a catch up chat with them.
Yesterday the drive to Esseborne Manor near Andover for the reunion. We travelled with Pam from Fareham. My mother managed to miss a turning soon after we left the main road, sending us along winding narrow country roads that for quite some time showed no road signs or signs of civilisation. Eventually we reached one of those lovely old-fashioned metal signposts and from there found a village and, thanks to the AA map book, got on track from there.
We still made it comfortably on time. Pat, our hostess, and her new husband Dennis, and John from Rushmoor was already there; Pat had laid on complimentary Pimms for us all. We drank out on the terrace for a while, soon joined by Tony and Margaret from Basingstoke and Jim and Maria from Test Valley; Maria had a kiss on the lips for me as usual, and came over to sit with me, calling me her best friend. I managed to bag the seat next to her at dinner.
Just the ten of us attended; others were either on holiday or had family commitments. The food was excellent. The starter buffet was a generous 'all you can eat' selection of cold meat, a warm potato based dish, prawns and salads. There was a selection of main courses; I went for roast beef and Yorkshire. Dessert was another all you can eat buffet of various cakes and fruit.
We chatted for a little while then said our goodbyes. My mother found a nearby main road to get onto.
Nightmare travelling back on the train today; my train from Clapham Junction was cancelled and I had to make a tortuous journey back changing at Willesden and Watford. And then it was time to dump my bags and head into town for the shopping.
But never mind : today the beautiful Tracey from Voice of the Beehive friended me on Facebook!
