Mamma Mia

So now we know why Laura was all coy about her future since she returned from Oz.

She is expecting her first child in December.

I'm delighted for them both, I really am. And yet...this signals the end of her playing career, and means I'll certainly never meet her again, so I can't help feeling a little sad.

Last year at Kelly Smith's testimonial, my friend Kath, who's madly in love with Kelly, held up a placard with a limerick on it that she'd penned in Kelly's honour. So here's my effort :

There once was a player named Laura
No women's football fan could ignore her
She'd fight to the end
Now I'm going to spend
The rest of my days pining for her.
