May. 11th, 2010 05:22 pmThe first team's and the Ladies' seasons might have been over, but there was still one more game at Westleigh Park last night, the Academy lads at home to Bromley in the semi-final of the Conference Academy League championship play-offs, and I was one of a handful of mad Hawks who went along to cheer the boys on. Met Hayley and Edge in the clubhouse then Malc, Aly, Spud and Mark inside the ground. After a bit of Scottish football banter we soon got on to the story of the moment : earlier in the day Bobby Hopkinson had signed for Hawks on a two-year deal. Brilliant news.
That, though, was as good as the evening got as Bromley scored from a breakaway in the ninth minute and made it 2-0 from the penalty spot on the quarter-hour. The Hawk boys rarely threatened all game and in the second half Bromley added two more.
And that really was that - it's all over for the summer now. Never mind, only 34 days to Holland's first World Cup match...
It was Bev's birthday today, so more nibbles on the table, including some delicious chocolate and caramel topped biscuit crumb cakes that for some reason were far less popular than her other offerings of muffin-type cakes and rocky road fingers. On the bright side, more left for me.
