Jan. 4th, 2010 06:30 pmBack to work. Most of us eased back into the routine as if we'd never been away, just exchanging the odd "Did you have a good Christmas?" enquiry, but Demelza and Della had a case of the post-Christmas blues - Demelza said she couldn't understand how people seemed happy to be back. Around lunchtime Sue actually asked me to go on the spreadsheet; that was because we had a fairly light workload today and it's tomorrow that the holiday backlog will descend on us like a tidal wave, so this was the last day for a while that I'd have any time to work on the spreadsheet. So I spent the afternoon looking up, copying and pasting place names.
Having been away for a week and a half, re-adjusting to the posture of my desk meant I had terrible back-ache by lunch time to go with my lousy cough. At least I have a doctor's appointment for the latter tomorrow.
When I entered the newsagent's, behind the counter Dan was ragging his colleague Rachel (they're both quite young) about her Arsenal shirt. As I came up to the counter Dan pointed at the HWFC badge on my jacket and said "Here's someone who supports a good team - Havant." Rachel laughed at him for supporting Newcastle, prompting his rejoinder "We're top of the league." "Yeah, the Champions' League," said Rachel (how Geordies must wish that were true!) Dan and I reminisced about Hawks' epic cup run of two years ago...
