Dec. 15th, 2009 08:52 pmHad an all-day Advanced Macros course at work today. I'd expected to have some familiarity with Macros as I knew they were part of Excel and Access with which I'm well acquainted. I hadn't banked on everyone except me and one other guy having been through an Introductory Macros course. The first exercise, intended as a warm-up, had me stumped - I had no idea what creating a Macro module involved. Fortunately the tutor was happy to give everyone a refresher, and the rest of the course was easy to follow as he took us through many of the exercises.
We got 40 minutes for lunch, a luxury when you're used to 20. After I'd eaten I bought a Dr Pepper and intended to spend the rest of the break in the TV lounge, but I met Karen there and she asked me to run a couple of Christmas cards up to my department. The telly was switched off anyway...
I came out of the course with a lot of useful knowledge about Macro functions and their use in Excel and Access. The only drawback was that we two chaps needing the refresher meant we ran out of time, but the tutor promised to email everybody the last couple of exercises.
At the end, toddled back upstairs to my office to work out the last half hour before the bus went. There was a generous bagful of Roses on my desk; thinking they were for sharing, after I'd taken a couple I went over to Melissa and Pam, the last of my section still working, and offered them to them, but they said the chocs were all mine. Debbie had brought a massive tin in and given everyone a generous helping.
Just before I went I asked Melissa and Pam to mind my raffle tickets at tomorrow's draw. They asked what prizes I'd prefer so I specified that alcohol and chocolate were favourites - in no particular order - while calendars or diaries would also meet with approval.
On my way out I passed Debbie and Liz who said to have a good time at The Pogues concert tomorrow. Liz asked if they still played Fairytale, I confirmed they do, and she reflected on the tragic loss of Kirsty.
After sitting in horrendous traffic on the buses, finally home to crash out in front of Steptoe And Son and The Good Life on GOLD + 1. Got to go pack for tomorrow and catch an early night - I have to be in Portsmouth at 6 am to get the Megabus...
