It was Val's penultimate day in our part of the office before her promotion; as many of us don't work on Fridays we had our farewell to her today. We gathered around her desk while Chris made a speech, told an anecdote and presented her with her card and her gift. Val almost filled up, but remained composed while she said a few quick words of thanks, and we all gave her a generous round of applause. Soon after we'd gone back to our desks, Val brought several boxes of cakes - profiteroles, mini cream sponges and mini doughnuts - over to our section.
