The day started well enough - Vettel got pole. After a pretty painless driving lesson this morning, Peter announced that we'd be doing a mock test next week. He also revealed that he's starting a courier's job weekdays and will just be doing the driving lessons on weekends, so my test will definitely be on a Saturday. One less flex day I have to work extra time to earn.

From there, via lunch at Gosport Subway, I went over to Westleigh Park to arrive early for Hawks' grudge derby with E*******h. In fact, in the clubhouse there were Hawks and Spitefires fans drinking side by side without a hint of trouble - a tribute to the spirit of non-league. Trev had news for me when he emerged from the boardroom into the stand : the Ladies' opponents for tomorrow's cup tie have scratched so the girls get a bye.

We had a massive crowd, over 1400, not only because it was a local derby but boosted by quite a few Pompey fans who hadn't travelled to Wolves. Once the game kicked off the chants started flying between the two ends, with the Beasts' songs of "You've wasted all your money" and "If it wasn't for the Spitfire you'd be Krauts" drawing retorts from the Hawk hardcore of "4-0 up and you fucked it up" (they were leading Hayes & Yeading 4-0 in the promotion play-offs last season and ended up losing).

The game was looking like a meandering 0-0 until the 30th minute when Muzzy Tiryaki stabbed home from close range to give us the lead. When, not long after, Luke Nightingale fired in number two, we looked like we'd cruise it.

Alas, Judas Baird obviously knew what to give his troops at half time while Galey didn't. The Beasts came at us for most of the second half, we gave away a soft goal just after the hour, then with five minutes remaining their constant pressure was rewarded with an equaliser. Hawks created two chances in the closing minutes but wasted both.

There was no comfort in the clubhouse. East Stirlingshire lost 3-0 at Albion Rovers. The only bright spot was meeting Angie on my way out and getting a quick chat with her.

Got to go watch Strictly. Happy thoughts, Miss Johnson...
