Jul. 25th, 2009 03:05 pmDriving lesson. Not too bad, though my bay park was a disaster thanks to stupidly taking my foot off the clutch and so stalling early on in the manoeuvre. That left me going round in the wrong position, with a white line running right under the car, and my attempts to reposition the car were hampered by my going in one direction while Peter kept telling me to go in the other - it turned out he was trying to get me into the space whose one line I could see from my right wing mirror, which I realised after was the more logical move, while I, for some reason, was aiming for the adjacent space. When I'd finally parked - still not fully inside the lines - Peter said it can help to make a mistake now and again so you know how to correct it.
Shortly after, I mounted a kerb a little coming round a corner. Did a decent reverse round a corner apart from inadvertently easing off the clutch when starting to straighten up, meaning I speeded up and had to apply the brake quick. At the end Peter said I was doing OK and just needed to keep my clutch still during manoeuvres and react to situations earlier. Unfortunately he then said that when we'd been going along Grange Road I'd seen brake lights on the car in front "and didn't do anything about it". In fact when I'd seen the guy's lights I had checked mirrors and applied the brake - maybe Peter had seen the lights before I did, as he was already saying "Respond to those brake lights" just before I stepped on the brake. Now I pointed out that I had braked at that point. Peter was ruffled, but just said that he couldn't have felt my braking, and went back to talking me through keeping my foot on the clutch.
Got to get back to the cricket. C'mon Hampshire.
