Jun. 19th, 2009 05:25 pmStarting to find my feet with this coding lark now :)
We had a staff meeting just after lunch where a couple of ladies did a quick presentation about the new sickness absence policy that's coming in on Monday. It's less than popular with quite a few people, largely because after every sick absence, even a day, when we come back we'll have to have a 'Return To Work' chat with our line manager, and 10 days' sick absence over the course of a year will mean a formal meeting. The ladies stressed that the idea behind the policy is to keep employees healthy, and during questions from the floor Elaine made it clear that she didn't want her staff coming in to work when they were ill, but the tone of several people's questions was that they felt the upshot of the policy was that more people were going to drag themselves to work while unwell. We shall see.
To Fareham post office after work to get my holiday money. The girl behind the counter was flabbergasted when I asked her for £1250 worth of Swedish kronor (as the Swedish krona circulates freely in Åland alongside the euro, and I have to make a one-night stopover and connections in Sweden each way anyway, it makes more sense to just get one lot of currency) and asked if I'd made a reservation. She said they didn't keep that much in stock. However, with a visit to the safe she was able to rustle me up £1050 worth. So I had to toddle down to Eurochange in the shopping mall for the rest.
Then on to Boots to replenish my stock of Benadryl Plus. The friendly lady there asked if I wanted anything else for my hay fever and, when I said no, smiled "They're brilliant, aren't they?" I agreed, even though in spite of them my nose has been really itchy today. Then she warned me not to take them for more than a week before changing over to ordinary Benadryl. Whoops, I've been on the Plus for the last month.
