Jun. 5th, 2009 07:09 pmThis morning my booth was festooned with balloons, paper streamers and signs saying 'WILHELMUS Good luck in your new job'. Sue #3 came over when I arrived there and said she and some of the girls had laid out some food in the vacant booth next to me, so people could come and see me when they went for a nibble. There was Pringles, Maltesers, Rocky Road bites, brownie bites, chocolate flapjack bites and some tasty Thai seaweed biscuits. I kept dipping in all through the shift; so did lots of the girls. Every so often someone would wish me luck with the new job. Julieann and Sue #5 both gave me cards during the course of the morning.
At 1.30 I was coming to the end of an interview and noticed people progressively gathering around me. Before I reached the end of the survey I'd become aware everyone was there. Fortunately I soon got finished so left off coding out to face the assembled masses. When I turned round I got a huge round of applause and cheer from everyone, and Sue #5 announced that as most of today's crowd weren't there on Wednesday to say goodbye to me, and as I was such a popular member of the team, they were doing another presentation for me now. Sue #5 handed me a card and a couple of wrapped gifts and said I had to open them now. The first gift was the CD of this year's Eurovision entries; the other a box of Thornton's chocs. I said heartfelt thanks to everybody, Sue #4 took a couple of photos of me, Sue #5 wished me good luck and Katrina said "We'll stop humiliating you now". When they all dispersed, Julieann hung back to let me hug and kiss her again *x* And that was it, though I still had an hour to do on the phones. The last guy I interviewed soon got thoroughly pissed off with the whole thing, and moaned throughout, but at least he finished it. He turned out to be my last ever phone interview as I spent the remaining 15 minutes making appointments and leaving phone messages.
Before going to get the bus, I went over to see Sue #5 as she'd asked, so she could give me a goodbye hug of her own - so then Sue #4 and Marilyn wanted one each too.
Driving lesson after work. My bay park and parallel park were fine, but both attempts at a reverse round a corner came to untimely ends when I mounted the pavement, and during the turn in the road I was punked by Peter telling me to hurry up to get out of the way of an oncoming car, then was told off for looking down to adjust the handbrake and gear lever instead of doing them while I made my observations, then ended up stalling when I went to start the final leg. I also mounted the kerb a few times when turning corners on open road driving :( Nonetheless Peter reckoned my open road driving was getting there, though I was sometimes suffering from lack of concentration and occasionally stll not responding to things ahead early enough. When he noticed me stifling a yawn during our brief mid-lesson break, he said after a working day my driving might be affected by tiredness. With me working full time from next week, Peter said we'd do most of our lessons on Saturdays in future though that won't be possible every week, depending partly on whether one girl is doing stuff with the Guides or not...
