Hawks Ladies met Launton in a double header at Fort Blockhouse this afternoon, needing a win and a draw to clinch promotion. They coasted to the title with 8-1 and 5-0 victories. Throughout the second half of the second game the substituted girls, unused subs and fringe squad players lined the touchline calling out to the girls how long was left to play, and joining in when I led them in choruses of 'The Hawks are going up'. At the final whistle Billie, Liz and Lisa Chamberlain sprayed bottles of Asti all over the shop while the girls formed a rough circle and danced around in celebration and I led the chant of 'Championi, championi, olé, olé, olé'. Then they all lined up for Christine to take a group photo - having to yell to Dick, who was collecting corner flags, to come over and join them - as they chanted 'We are going up'.

That wasn't the end of my Hawks Ladies action for the day, as, bizarrely, a team had been entered in the FA Umbro Fives heat at Southampton this evening. Despite having played a double header this afternoon, the Hawk team swept through the group unbeaten only to fall 4-1 in the final to a team full of FA Women's Premier players. At the end I was hoping for a jar in the bar, but the girls all headed straight for the car park - to drive home with their footy kit and boots on! It was a shame that one or two of them were visibly peeved that we hadn't got through this tournament, taking the shine off the promotion day.

Never mind - CHAMPIONS!
