Apr. 16th, 2009 10:20 pmHaving put up, for the last few Thursday evening shifts, with the view on my VDU screen having the borders too wide, so if there's a 3 or 8 in the first column of the address you can't tell which, and having guessed wrong more than once and had to apologise to respondents for mistaking their address, today I reported the fault at the top of the shift. Rose the duty supervisor came over, tried to fix the fault, and failed, so she sent over John, who fared no better. He sent an email to the IT department, and asked me to wait and see whether someone came from there in the next couple of minutes. They didn't, so John told me to find another booth to work in.
The next booth across was free, so I set up there. That confused Carol when she arrived, at which point I was in the middle of an interview. She was about to set up in the wonky booth, so I wrote her a little note to say the screen wasn't displaying properly and she went back to her usual seat. Later an IT guy did appear, and apparently couldn't crack the problem either - Carol told me near the end of the shift that he'd moaned about us making hard work for him!
