Apr. 9th, 2009 11:58 pmPut in a 9 to 3 shift this morning, as a self swap from tonight. Had to extricate myself from Phil wanting to have an in-depth conversation about real ale to get to my booth to start...
Just before 2 pm I'd nearly finished the survey with one woman when I had to ask her some health related questions. Halfway through the first of those, she cut in on me with "I've already told you that." As the remainder of the question - whether she had problems with her arms or hands - made a significant difference, I said "Sorry, could I please complete the question?" She replied "That was very rude" and moments later said she was fed up with the survey and was ending the call. I asked what the problem was. She said the survey took too long. I replied that it was a quarter of an hour, and that we don't think that's excessive. She said she thought it was, and that she was fed up with it. Wasting our time by seeing an interview almost through to the end then breaking off is bad enough, but to add insult to injury her parting shot was "And your interviewing technique is appalling." I don't think there was any need for that, really.
Went over to Moneyfields this evening for the Hawk girls in the Portsmouth Cup Final. Arrived at the ground quite early to learn the clubhouse didn't open till 7. So I had to amble back down the road to the Jolly Taxpayer for a pre-match Magners.
Saw lovely Michelle inside the ground before kick-off. Went over to her, but as I reached her I got the feeling she wouldn't really welcome a hug and a kiss so resisted the temptation. We made a little uneasy conversation then I left her with her gal pals and went to stand with Rob and Christine, sadly now convinced she'd never be interested in me.
The game was, again, not a vintage performance from Hawks, and though they dominated Moneyfields, from a lower league but a decent side, for long periods, they weren't able to put the ball in the net during the first half, and Moneys had two good chances just before half-time. Meanwhile, I went over to stand by Michelle and sister Stacy for some of the action. Sabrina was also there; when she gave me stick for not recognising a girl of our acquaintance in the Moneys squad, I replied that I only take notice of our players.
"Would you recognise us if we played against you?" Michelle asked me. "Yes," I smiled, ignoring Sabrina's comment that I'd blank the pair of them. I added "Michelle knows my dream is her in a Hawks shirt, though it doesn't look like that's going to happen." Sabrina had her own angle on that, with, predictably, plenty of double entendre. Was able to exchange a bit more football related banter, with a mild flirtatious undercurrent, with Michelle before returning to the Hawk hardcore.
Shortly after the break the girls came out much improved, Charlie headed home a nod-down from Telé on 55 minutes, and from then on it was all Hawks though the game ended 1-0. By then Hawk Michelle had come off in agony, having aggravated an ankle injury. She spent the last quarter hour of the game sitting behind us with her boots off; Lisa, another substituted girl, did an OK job on bandaging her up.
Watched the Hawk girls collect the Cup (actually a shield) and disappear into the dressing room before emerging moments later led by Jo armed with a bottle of champagne, that she popped open and proceeded to spray over the others.
Trev bought me a mixed fruit Kopparberg in the clubhouse. Sadie broke it to me that she couldn't give me a lift to Henley on Sunday as she's one of half a dozen of the girls who are spending Easter weekend camping in Weymouth, so she'll be driving straight from there to the game. That was a pig as the train fare to Henley's expenditure I can ill afford. While Dick and Trev admonished them not to drink too much on their trip (they didn't hold out much hope of their orders being obeyed) and to make sure they all turned up, in conversation I told Hawk Michelle and Eskimo Jen that I'd be going to Henley by train. They immediately said to come to the meet-up at Westleigh Park and promised that one of them would take me :)
