Hawks Ladies v Aldershot at Fort Blockhouse. When I arrived Rob (Chelsea's dad) and Christine informed me that today we'd all have to remain behind the perimeter rope, as the ground-graders from the Combination were coming. I didn't mind having to remain behind the rope, but what radges me off is that earlier in the season the word had been that if they were promoted to the Combination, the girls would be admitted to Westleigh Park. Not so now, it seems. We all know what it's all about too - protecting the Westleigh Park pitch for Portsmouth Sodding Reserves.

Dick told me just before kick-off that winning this game and the next four would make us mathematically champions. Famous last words.

I did wonder whether the girls would be suffering hangover after last week and in the first half that certainly seemed to be the case. Sam and Telé, not used to playing up front together, were off the boil, Sally's crosses were erratic and went to nobody, Charlie's effectiveness was blunted by her being played out of position in midfield and Aldershot generally hustled our girls off the ball much of the time. They took the lead in the 18th minute thanks to non-existent defending and for the rest of the half Hawks never looked like getting back into the match.

While Dick gave the starting eleven the hairdryer treatment at half-time, Jade and Sabrina provided comic relief for me, Rob, Christine and Rose. Jade hinted at a rumour of a sexual liaison between a local woman footballer (not one of the Hawks) and a Portsmouth FC player; Sabrina refused to confirm or deny whether it was true but the story still had everyone convulsed.

Hawks improved in the second half, and Charlie volleyed in an equaliser a few minutes in, but despite applying almost constant pressure our girls couldn't get a winner. Rob remained upbeat, he was sure that either we'd win all of our next five or Bracknell and Southampton Saints would drop some points, but I'm not so sure. I set off on the long walk home, my head full of nightmare visions of the girls' form falling apart and ending up stuck in the Southern League.

Popped into Asda on the way home, but they didn't have any cold canned drinks. Feh.
