Mar. 2nd, 2009 03:47 pmMy cousin Gayle had drawn my attention to some full-time posts at my workplace advertised in The News last week, albeit fixed-term four-year posts...I could live with that. Armed with the advert, I went to see Sue #5 at the top of the shift and asked if there was an internal procedure by which I should apply. She said yes, and that internal candidates are usually preferred to external, and printed off the Person Specification for me. She had another piece of good news : we're allowed to come off the phones to fill in applications, as long as we take less than an hour. So I spent the first 35 minutes of the shift filling in an application form on the intranet, then Christine #3 gave me a pass out to go and talk to Tricia, the lady applications go to. Our talk was brief; she just explained what I had to do next in the application process and said she couldn't tell me specifics of the job, as there'd be several posts of that rank on offer and every applicant who got through the screening process would be considered for each individual vacancy as it came up.
So then it was back on the phones, but at least the shift was nearly an hour old by now. No real problems, just one guy who actually said "Stuff it" to a question he objected to (what happened to "I'd rather not say"?) but completed the rest of the interview. Got a lift with Cathy, who was held up for ten minutes by an over-running interview but that suited me as my own last call had run right up to 2.30, so the delay to her allowed me to check my e-mail (had none), do my payclaim and claim 10 extra minutes.
My application for the Alliance & Leicester account has been accepted :)
