Feb. 17th, 2009 04:44 pmDriving lesson went fine for the first half hour; I had my first taste of a dual carriageway and a 60mph speed limit road, though I only got up to 48 mph before arriving at a lower road and Peter said I'd need to do around 55 there on the test. I stalled during a turn in the road, and from then on it was downhill fast. My worst howler was turning right out of a closed junction in third without stopping. After a catalogue of foul-ups I did manage to do a perfect bay park, and I was lucky in that Peter ascribed my below-par driving to my cold. Because of that he spared me further manoeuvres, and we did an emergency stop then just went open road driving for the rest of the lesson. That went so-so, but Peter said at the end I was coming on nicely enough - I just need to go into junctions slower and think more deeply about what might be happening on the road ahead.
Walked up to the White Hart afterwards to use the cash machine, only to get three 'Card Error' messages. Had to take the bus to the town centre - then arrived outside the Natwest to see a huge paper 'Out Of Order' notice taped over the front of the machine. So I had to walk half the length of the High Street to Lloyds TSB. Pah.
