I had to face the restaurant manager again today. I'd been emailed the code number to claim a 50p refund for the time on Monday when the coffee machine had run out of cups and just spewed a load of coffee straight down the hole. When I went down there at lunch time to collect the money it was the manager whom they sent to meet me. Although he seemed to maybe be just a trifle miffed to see me again, he didn't give me any trouble.

On the bright side I got a free pen from the office shop. I needed one to write my Christmas cards to colleagues and a birthday card, so visited the shop before going on shift to buy one; the lady said she didn't sell pens but she could give me a free one if I was desperate to use a pen. She had a whole bundle behind the counter tied up with an elastic band, thin promotional pens from a Southampton laundry and dry cleaning firm. Kushti.
