WELL DONE EMMA POOLEY!! She was amazing in that time trial, and I'm so pleased she has a medal of her own after the hard work she did for Nicole Cooke in the road race. She seems a really nice lass too. I'm in love :D

In the coffee lounge before work Sarah #1 said she'd got Olympic fever and asked if I'd been watching the Games. As I squeed over Emma's silver Sarah virtually joined in with my sentences, agreeing how great it was she'd won one after helping Nicole - Sarah said her husband knows about cycling and that he said it's usual for team-mates to work for each other.

Dress rehearsal today. When Pat (not the Pat who's my line manager), who was doing it with me, mentioned a guy called Lloyd, who'd be working with us from 12 noon, his full name was the same as someone I'd been at the EBD school with.

Before 2 pm I interviewed just three elderly couples. The rest of the time I was leaving messages, making appointments, listening to constant ringing tone, or getting the occasional refusal, one of which came from a man whose wife had just died and who had the bailiffs about to come round. He can be forgiven.

When Lloyd arrived just before 12, I could tell it was the same guy from school, so I got up, shook hands with him and said "We last met 26 years ago." He was a bit nonplussed, and I had to remind him of the school's location, but I think he remembered my name when I mentioned it. When we were at school together he was just a little nipper - being 4 years older than him and a big boy for my age I was twice the size of him - but now he towers over me.

Just after 2 pm I got a married couple who were both willing to do the survey straight away. Unfortunately the nature of the dress rehearsal means the interviews last longer than normal ones. As 2.30 approached, there was no-one to ask to take over, as Pat and Lloyd had both abandoned their workstations - Pat was gathering around the front desk for what turned out to be a 'happy 65th birthday' to Margaret, while God knows where Lloyd was - so I had no option but to bite the bullet, miss my bus and finish the interview.

Sarah #1, who finishes at 3 pm, agreed to drop me at the bus stop on the Warsash Road. As we drove along, Sarah raved about the Olympics again, but said she wasn't too keen on the athletics (track and field for my readers across the pond). There wasn't a 72 bus until 3.27 - thank goodness this bus stop has a shelter, it's lovely weather for ducks here today - but at least it was a direct bus to Gosport so I avoided the A32 crawl.
