Janine's leaving our office tomorrow, so she brought in a box of Roses, some mini Jaffa cakes and a paper plateful of strawberry and marshmallow kebabs for the nibbles table. Lovely jubbly. I missed the presentation of a bouquet of flowers to her at 12 noon as I was in the middle of an interview :(

Barry called me over when I was on the way back from reporting a refusal and asked if I'd participate in the 'Dress Rehearsal' for a new survey, saying they're short of bodies and getting desperate. I told him I'm on annual leave on Friday 1 August, the day of the introductory briefing, and he actually asked if I couldn't come in anyway! I explained I've bought a ticket for the Stokes Bay Festival; he accepted that and said they'd get me an information pack in lieu of attending the briefing. So I signed up for dress rehearsal on my two free days during its three week run, Wednesdays 13 and 20 August. With my financial situation every little helps...

Got assessed on my last interview of the day. Christine #3 had the pleasure of monitoring me for the first time, said I'd done really well and that it had been a pleasure to listen to. As we made our way back to our respective seats, my imminent shift pattern change came up in conversation. Jane overheard; going past her as I returned to my booth, she said "Did you say you won't be working Monday evenings any more?"

"This Monday coming'll be my last Monday night."

Jane said she'd miss me, so I reminded her we'd still be on Thursday mornings together.

Out to Grange Farm this evening to see the wonderful Villagers do their open-air Shakespeare - Twelfth Night this year. The young ladies on the front table know me now. As Grange Farm is notorious for flies in summer, the ladies had Aeroguard for customers' use; I sprayed my arms liberally and the girls suggested I might like to spray my ankles, but on seeing my tall DM boots they reckoned I'd be OK. Nigel Dean was the star of the show, playing the drunken Sir Toby Belch with the aid of a false purple nose and...belching all the time. Kate Shuttleworth and Charlotte O'Toole gave lovely winsome performances of the two female leads, and Sue Shuttleworth was fantastic as Fabian (she played the character as a woman, wearing a dress and flirting with Feste the jester). Special mention has to go to Andy White as Malvolio. As Ian Wright (director and Orsino) introduced the play, he said "Andy took the old saying 'Break a leg' literally and broke his foot today. Being a true pro, he's vowed that the show must go on, so you'll just have to excuse his non-Shakespearean crutches." Andy proceeded to turn in a fine, impassioned rendition. Hats off.
