Jun. 11th, 2008 07:04 pmSwitched on my phone first thing this morning to find a text from Patrick, my cousin's Dutch boyfriend, inviting me over on Friday night for dinner, 'cold beer' and to watch the France match.
I'd just got set up in my usual Wednesday/Thursday booth when Margaret came over. "Sorry to disorganise you," she said, then told me all my usual row and the two adjacent ones were out of bounds and all of us who usually sit there had to go across to the spare rows at the other end. Paula and Jane #1 decided to come and sit next to me as usual; they said they'd seen the Netherlands v Italy game on Monday and thought of me. When I said my cousin's Dutch boyfriend had invited me over, Paula clearly thought I had a trip to the Netherlands coming up, until I added "They live in Gosport." Much amusement from Jane. Paula blamed the misunderstanding on it being too early in the morning. Later Paula tried to win me back into the BB-watching fold - sorry, babe, it ain't going to happen - and I came off one call to hear her and Jane having a bitching session about a co-worker (sworn to secrecy, I can't give any more detail!)
Waited at the bus stop for the 2.38 bus. It still hadn't shown up by 2.55. I trudged back up to the office hoping to catch Sarah #1 who knocks off at three, hoping she could drop me at the 72 stop on Warsash Road which is on her way home. She wasn't there, but Jane #2 was. As she was going to pick her kids up in Rowner, she agreed to drop me in Stubbington. When I got there, there was nearly half an hour before the 72 bus was due. Maddeningly, the timetable for 34 buses to Gosport had been removed from the shelter. After a quarter of an hour without a 34, since I needed some yogurt anyway I popped into Budgens to buy some, saving myself a trip to Waitrose on the way home, meaning I could catch the 72 and still be home in time to microwave and eat a ready meal before Czech Republic v Portugal.
