May. 17th, 2008 05:36 pmTravelled to London yesterday evening to see Rob and Sue. "Long time no see," they observed when I arrived - sure enough, it was two years since we'd last met, thanks to mayoral duties keeping me away last May. We watched the Eurovision previews DVD. Our marks are wildly different this year - the only song to gain points from all of us was Malta and only five other songs were favoured by two of us. Sue's favourite was Bosnia, which seemed to have something to do with them bringing a live chicken on stage for the performance. We all wondered whether they'd take the chicken to Belgrade; Sue said she'd only vote for it if they did. Rob was particularly interested in predicting the winner this year, as they've decided to have a flutter on it. Sue proceeded to predict Bosnia, while Rob predicted the Netherlands, so they're going to put a quid on both.
After I'd told them about my gut rot, Rob asked if I felt up to partaking in a Chinese. I agreed, and joined them in sweet and sour chicken, beef chow mein, pork curry and special fried rice, which turned out to be a mistake. Just after we'd said goodnight at 12.30 am, I was struck down with the gallops.
My departure this morning was delayed a good half hour by repeated visits to the loo. I had to go again at Stratford station, only to find the loo was a 20p pay one and I had only a £10 note on me. So I scanned WH Smith's for something both useful and costing a sum that would give me a 20p coin in my change. Thank goodness, a bottle of Volvic strawberry-flavoured water at £1.29 fit the bill.
Back home, during the lead-up to the FA Cup Final I risked two digestives and a Majestic ice cream. With no apparent ill effects, at half time I tried two more biscuits, then two bananas during the second half.
I missed 10 minutes near the end of the match through confinement in the U-know-what.
Back on water.
