Nov. 14th, 2007 04:18 pmAll was going well on one of my interviews this morning until I said to the woman I was speaking to that I'd now like to ask her about state benefits and tax credits she might be receiving. That was the cue for her to throw a wobbly and suddenly decide she didn't like giving out personal information over the phone. End of interview.
So when I went for my next mini-break I was in definite need of a tonic. One was provided by Amanda. As she was off the phone when I passed her, I went over to tell her I'd be coming to see her play on Saturday. Sarah #1 and Sarah #4 took an immediate interest - "It's on Saturday, is it?" Sarah #1 said with a big grin. I told her it's on tomorrow, Friday and Saturday - much to the embarrassment of Amanda. "She wouldn't tell us when it was on," explained Sarah #4, "she didn't want us to come." They asked me how much the tickets were.
"Seven quid."
Sarah #1 and Sarah #4 pretended to be outraged while Amanda smiled "We have overheads, you know."
As I passed Margaret she said "Were you pleased?"
Thinking she was referring to Hawks' cup victory I replied "Yes, I went to York." She waxed lyrical about how York was a lovely city, but when I mentioned I'd just seen the area around the football ground she groaned "Oh, you went there for football!" I said I thought that was what she meant by asking if I was pleased but she said "No, I meant your assessment!" Earlier in the morning I'd been handed the paper confirmation of the good assessment I got the other week.
An extra half-hour's pay today as we had a Briefing at 2.10. This consisted of us all standing in a corner around Cathy while she explained to us some things that some interviewers are doing wrong. Made it to the bus stop with a couple of minutes to spare, only for the bus to turn up 15 minutes late anyway.
