I passed ECDL module 2 with 97%, and Glasgow has won the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Went to the Gosport Amateur Operatic Society production of The Pirates of Penzance at Ferneham Hall this evening. Terrible news - the bar no longer serves Warsteiner ;( The only beer they do now is Carlsberg or Stella, so I settled for a Bulmers.

One of the guys on the raffle table remembered me from my Mayor's Consort year. My seat turned out to be next to Tessa, the Society chairman. She thanked me effusively for becoming a patron. I asked how the run had been going, and she said well, except that Natalie Quantick, one of the stars, had gone down with flu this morning, so her understudy Nicola Cordell (sister of the very talented Becky Cordell-Ebsworth) was taking over her role from tonight. "She's twice the size of her," Tessa couldn't resist observing. Something needs to be done about her prejudice against full-figured women. Tessa told me how the boat used in the scenery had gone wrong on Wednesday, but the cast had carried on like consummate professionals. "You didn't bring [my mother]?" Tessa asked me just before curtain up. I just said my mother was busy. You'd think people would appreciate that I was only escorting her for her mayoral year and that we've now returned to our separate lives.

Gavin Ebsworth (husband of Becky) was fantastic as Frederic. Bill Delicate was a superb Major-General, and they were ably supported by all the cast. You'd never have guessed that Nicola had only stepped into her role today, she turned in a fine performance and blended with the rest of the cast seamlessly. The whole show was very jolly.

In the bar after the show, seeing Becky (not performing at the moment as she's visibly pregnant, but she did choreograph this show), I went up to her table. As the people sitting with her were obviously family or friends of hers, I assumed they'd been involved in the show too and said to them all generally "Great show, well done." The other two just sat there looking puzzled, and one made a remark I didn't catch and that he wouldn't repeat to my "Sorry?" so clearly not for my ears. Whoops, they weren't part of the production team after all. Becky didn't say anything to me either, so I knew it was time for me to disappear. I did pass Gavin (still in his pirate get-up) and Nicola in the foyer on my way out so congratulated them.

Got to go hit the hay, as I'm getting up at 4.30 for the York trip.
