Aug. 17th, 2007 06:00 pmThis morning the computer threw me an old lady who I'd got on Wednesday, when she'd curtly told me "I haven't got time" and slammed the phone down immediately. I was optimistic that I just might have better luck with her today, but no. She interrupted my reading the little introduction with "I haven't got time and I don't want to be involved any more" and slammed the phone down again. What she never gave me the chance to explain was that, as she and her husband were both over 70 and retired, the whole thing would only have taken four minutes. This was really dispiriting.
At 1.51 I got a lady willing to answer for herself and her two grown-up daughters then and there. Being a Friday during the school holidays, we were down to a skeleton staff, so there was no-one to relieve me if I was still going strong at 2.30. I started the interview half convinced I was going to miss my bus, but fortunately we got through the lady's questions fairly quickly, and the younger of her adult daughters was still at school and hadn't had a job yet, so we got finished at 2.20.
And there endeth my last five-day week for a couple of months, thank goodness.
To the library after work to collect my reserved copy of Thank You, Jeeves. It's needed.
