May. 29th, 2007 06:03 pmBack to work :( Nightmare start, my very first call was to an elderly Welsh woman who was really awkward the whole time, constantly breaking off the interview to talk about how she was retired or how her husband was unwell, and then refusing to answer for him at all - she insisted her answers counted as 'joint'. From then on, though, it was plain sailing and the shift went by fairly quickly thanks to some large families.
On the nibbles table were Maoam sweets, Terry's Chocolate Orange Bars and chocolate digestives. I was good(ish), left the sweeties alone and stuck to the biscuits. As I reached for my third, late in the shift, Janet, sat behind the desk, said "Do me a favour, [malmo58], take the packet before I eat them all."
I still had one more person to go on my last interview as 2.30 approached; I wrote the usual request for someone to take over on a bit of paper and waved it in the direction of the front desk, but Christine #3 didn't spot me till Vanessa, bless her, drew me to her attention. Then Janet came over to relieve me. I scouted around for a free booth to enter my payclaim, till Amanda #1 let me use hers, dumped my waste paper and strolled down to the bus stop.
Thank God I start 9 am to 2 pm shifts tomorrow.
Got plenty of exercise - I got off the bus at Fareham train station to buy a Network Card (with my trips to London starting Saturday) and walked the rest of the way to the bus station, then after dropping the News off at home walked into town to take back my library book and post Mark the Helen Love CD he asked for, called at the newsagent for a cold can of Red Bull, and hoofed back home again. Phew.
