Feb. 24th, 2007 10:05 pmTo Southampton this morning to collect my pre-booked tickets for the other two Portsmouth semi-finals of South Coast Idol - and to buy two more, now that I know each one's only good for half the night.
We were guests at the AGM of the Friends of a local council-owned garden today. After a few speeches by the society's officials and the election (unopposed) of next year's committee, everyone was let loose on the buffet, with lots of lovely cakes. The flapjack with currants wasn't over popular, so over the course of the hour I bagged half a dozen slices - it was delicious. So was some home-made sugar-coated shortbread. Among the gathering I bumped into my old secondary school headmistress, Mrs Lennard, now retired, who was delighted to see me in my Mayor's Consort role - she was always fond of me, and we passed the next quarter-hour having a very nice chat and reminiscing, and she told me about a few teachers from my day who've sadly passed on now.
Watched the rugby with a Shepherd Neame 1698 or two. Lovely stuff.
