Phoned Trevor a few minutes ago, and was told that the girls' game today is off because the Emsworth pitch is 'too wet'. (But we didn't have a drop of rain yesterday, and the sun's shining now!)

Worse was to come when I logged on to the Hawks web site. The men's Russell Cotes Cup tie with Fawley is now being played tomorrow night, when I'm at college, and the girls' Invitation Cup match at Salisbury has been re-arranged for this Thursday, when I'm due to attend The News Business Awards in my civic capacity. While Madam Mayor could take someone else, she never likes it if I don't go after we've both accepted, and getting home from Salisbury late at night would mean either shelling out £12 on a taxi home from Fareham, or going all the way to Havant with the girls after the match, meaning a long trek home, when I have work next morning.

Plus two more of the men's games that were rained off have been rescheduled for my college nights. That's four matches in all that I'll miss - the only bright side is that the Bedford match has been arranged for half-term week. I'm decidedly displeased.

Time for an assault on the last of the Quality Street and cheese footballs.
