Dec. 26th, 2006 09:26 pmChristmas Day was pleasant, if quiet. I got Tim Moore's book Nul Points, about his efforts to track down all the singers who've scored no points at Eurovision, from the parents, the Girls Aloud Greatest Hits CD from Katherine, a book token from Ann, a 70s compilation CD - including Melanie's Ruby Tuesday :) - from Jade and Phil, and three different real ales from Aunt Cynthia.
Passed the day watching TV (especially ITV3's Two Ronnies marathon), reading Nul Points and gorging on assorted nibbles. Dr Who was excellent - particularly impressed with both Catherine Tate's and Sarah Parish's performances. Another Christmas cracker from the Doctor! The Vicar of Dibley was very funny, though I guessed straight away that Geraldine's apparent love rival Rosie was going to turn out to be her beau's sister.
Hawks v Bognor this afternoon. The clubhouse was absolutely packed; standing in the middle were a group of blokes from Bognor who'd come in their beach gear! Yes, they were wearing just beach shirts, shorts and flip-flops, and it was bloody freezing outside. One of the HawkSupport ladies passed by my table, stopped and said hello, and she and I joined in with another fan's prezzie-comparing conversation. Met Sabrina, who was on ball girl duty with some more the girls' team, just before kick-off and compared Christmases. The game was end-to-end all the way through. After 18 minutes Rocky went clean through and lobbed the keeper for the opening goal, but it wasn't long before Bognor equalised. Then on 32 minutes Richard Pacquette hit a lovely volley straight into the top corner from 30 yards out, as good a goal as any you'll ever see.
Wandering along the front of the stand to the loo at half-time, I spotted Lisa and stopped for a quick chat. The second half again saw both sides constantly threatening, but there was no further score...until the final minute, when a Bognor free kick was drilled straight along the ground and into the net for the equaliser. The beachwear-clad Bognor fans behind the goal started celebrating as if they'd won the bloody game, and they were still singing at the tops of their voices when I filed past them to the clubhouse for a pint. Hope they got frostbite.
Back home for more Two Ronnies.
