Dec. 19th, 2006 04:08 pmAs it was the Monday-Tuesday mob's last shift before Christmas, they laid on a good spread - oodles of crisps, plenty of cocktail sausages, houmous dip (mmm), carrot sticks for dipping, deep filled mince pies (very tasty) and - oh yes - AFTER EIGHTS! It was just under an hour into the shift when people started falling on the food, but by 11.30 still no-one had opened the After Eights. No-one ever wants to be the person who first starts on the After Eights. So it was my duty to break the deadlock :)
People who eat an After Eight then put the empty envelope back in the box, especially when there are none/very few left, should be tied to a tree stump and riddled with arrows.
As we were entering our payclaims at the end of the shift, I heard 'Jingle Bells' and thought it was coming from Molly next to me. I joined in, then when we both got to the end (I'd sung "oh what fun it is to see Havant win away", no-one noticed), finishing with a rousing shout of "Hey!" Molly said to me "You've done it now, you've set her off." The songstress turned out to be Tania, who was on Molly's other side. I turned back to my payclaim; while I was typing it in, Lesley and Tania were giving it full voice on All I Want For Christmas Is You. I began shutting down my workstation and looked up, just as Lesley was saying "Tania and I should have been on The X Factor."
"You'll have to do it next year," I said. "We will," Tania promised, and Molly chipped in "They couldn't be The Cheeky Girls, they'll have to be The Cheeky Grans."
"I was just going to say will you do We Are The Cheeky Girls at the audition?" I said, just as Christine #3 came over. "What's this?" she asked.
Lesley and Tania told her she'd missed the beginning of the conversation, so I explained "Those two are auditioning for X Factor 4." Christine and Molly gave contemptuous snorts. "You'll see, when we win it!" Tania said with spirit.
As we were packing our stuff up Louise #2 handed me a Christmas card. I hadn't given her one, but fortunately we're both working Thursday.
On my bus home from Fareham the driver, a lady, was wearing a Santa hat. None of the other drivers had them on, just her.
Arrived home to find the women's football calendar I won in the Women's Soccer Scene competition had arrived - plus a Christmas card from James, the guy who produced the calendars. Off now to get a card in the post to him while there's still time...
