Sep. 23rd, 2006 08:30 pmWalking down to the ferry to go to football this afternoon, I passed by Walpole Park where the Michaelmas Fayre was taking place (my mother had opened it). I saw the 'Can you smell what the Jock is cooking?' burger van was there, but couldn't go over and get a burger as I hadn't been to the cash machine yet. In any case, if I had bought a burger from the Jock I'd have had to go without grub at half-time.
In the bar before the game a guy called Mike started a chat with me about the Hawks' current form. On learning I was a season ticket holder, he asked where I came from. I replied Gosport and he said "Why don't you support Gosport Borough?" That hit me on a raw nerve as I do get the odd pang of guilt at having chosen to follow the Hawks instead of my homely little home town club. I just smiled and said "Seduced by the glamour of Conference South." Mike then wanted to know whether I supported or followed a league club, I said no.
"So Havant & Waterlooville really are your team then?"
"Yes." Although he'd been referring to the Hawks as "we" all through the conversation, he seemed a bit amused by that, but he didn't own up to supporting anyone else.
In the glorious sunshine Hawks came back from behind to beat league leaders Histon 2-1 :)))
Last lot of auditions on X Factor - another lot of absolute nutters plus a few genuinely good singers. Bring on Boot Camp! LMAO @ Louis getting the groups.
