Just back from the dentist. A filling in one wisdom tooth - I can't chew on that side of my mouth for the rest of the day. Thank goodness, the X-rays showed I don't need the other filling reinforced after all. I was also told to 'stop eating toffees' (not that I eat them a great deal at all, but I think my dentist, a Swedish Asian whose first language isn't English, meant sweets generally). Drilling the new filling was a bit painful; the dentist did say after that he'd gone a bit deeper than he normally does with no injection and said "Very well done". Then it was a scale and polish, and finally the result of my X-rays. All clear, thank goodness. As he filled out my card, he said that because of my gum problem I'd have to have scales and polishes every three months for now, so come back in November or December.

As he said in three months' time, by 'November' he surely meant late November. Unfortunately, the receptionist didn't twig that from the 'Nov/Dec' written on the card. She tried to book me in for Wednesday 1 November; I told her it'd have to be a Monday or a Tuesday, so she put me down for Monday the 6th. So I'm having another scale and polish in two months' time. To top it off, when I handed her £90 she said she didn't have any change, so "I'll have to owe you a pound"...

Daniel came over this evening to drop the poetry box off. We discussed the latest developments in his poetry scheme on the Isle of Wight, agreed a date for the unveiling of the Gosport box - Saturday 21 October - then hit the Village Home (stopping on the way to admire Katie Bee's paving stone). In the pub Daniel gave me the low-down about a girl he likes; she lives in London, but said she might come down for an event he's doing next month - writing the world's longest poem in the sand on one of the Island's beaches. The poor bloke seemed to have dug himself into thinking that the girl was already a lost cause, even though there really didn't seem any reason to think that, so I urged him to adopt a more positive attitude. I think I persuaded him.

Then he went off to have supper with Katie and Digby.
