It took me ma until last night to decide what she wanted for Mothers' Day - a dark-coloured plant tub - so this morning I went over to The Range to buy her a suitable gunmetal black bell pot.
To Fort Blockhouse in the afternoon for the Hawk girls' Portsmouth Cup semi-final with Widbrook United. Some of our girls were friends with some of the Widbrook girls, so there was a convivial atmosphere all round - and, after months of being missing through working Sundays, Jade was on the subs' bench today so the Singing Corner was back in business! The moment the match kicked off Jade was leading us in "Penny, get your wand out", followed seconds later by her favourite "Hot dog, sausage roll".
After a superb tackle by centre-back Michelle, I started "They tried to get the ball past Michelle, she said no, no, no", which sent Jade into hysterics and had her turning round to high-five me. It all made for lots of fun, but by the closing minutes of the first half, when I got another new chant - "Chantelle Hedge's sexy football" - going, Rob was asking us to stop as we were putting the players off! So Jade spent most of the second half chatting to her friends. Little Brannan had the fidgets as usual, and was going round assaulting all and sundry, prompting Lisa to threaten him with being put in the Army when he's six. Becky exclaimed "Six! That's young," and I replied "He's joining the infantry."
Our singing can't have had too detrimental an effect on our team, as we won 3-0, Jodie sending over a perfect cross for Michelle to head home the opener, then Eskimo Jen and Chantelle making the win safe.
