Ding-A-Dong

I cast a few votes for young Molly from Ireland last night - hers was a nice song and, after all, in Eurovision nowadays everybody needs good neighbours - but not surprised she didn't go through. My favourite was Lithuania; delighted they, Slovenia and Poland went through, with massive kudos to the Polish lady for showing off her attractiveness to the full from her wheelchair. Gutted, though, for lovely Mélanie from Switzerland. Her performance was amazing, yet she was eliminated while a couple of really duff songs qualified. Yes, I'm looking at you, Azerbaijan, a couple of dancing hobbits should not be enough to carry a stultifyingly dull song to the final.

Having heard all the semi-finalists and snatches of all the Big 7 (and our song in full) I can honestly say Electro Velvet is my favourite! Being my favourite is normally the kiss of death, but the one and only time my favourite did win it was the UK entry (Katrina and the Waves) so fingers crossed...

It was a nice song, but not a Eurovision song to my mind. Sweet and lovely but not very exciting or eyecatching.

I didn't like as many of this semi's acts compared to Tuesdays. My favourite so far has been Bojana (Serbia) she was amazing!

I'm really surprised at how good and catchy our song is! Not that we'll get anywhere with it! :)

I think Bojana will win it!

I hope so, she's awesome!

Do you remember when Azerbaijan hosted and had to perform their song from the year before? I've not forgotten how embarrassed the two performers looked, singing their terrible winning entry. It only won because it had a specific chord change that seemed to lodge in your head and wouldn't shake loose again. I'm not sure why I'm surprised, really. Eurovision is usually a travesty. Last year was unusual in that they actually picked a worthy winner, for a change!

I do remember the 2012 contest in Baku, with the president's daughter co-hosting. I actually quite liked Ell & Nikki! Everyone thought the Russian grannies were going to win only for Loreen to pip them at the post.

Emmelie de Forest in 2013 was good, but while Conchita's win last year sent a nice diversity message given the intolerance still going on in much of Eastern Europe I wasn't a huge fan of her song.

But yes, every year several quality songs are left by the wayside in the semis.

Good luck for your pick in the final!

So yes, another kiss of death for the UK it was!

Did you notice the similarity to the 'Birdseye Potato Waffles" song?!
